1. About these terms
These terms apply to your use of cefrchecker.com (“CEFR Test”, “the site”, “we”, “us”). By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
2. The service
CEFR Test is a free tool that estimates which level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) a piece of writing most resembles, and shows approximate equivalents on other exam scales. There is no account and no charge. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site at any time, and we don’t guarantee it will always be available.
3. Results are estimates, not official scores
- Results are produced automatically and are estimates only. They can be wrong, and the same writer can get different results on different texts.
- The test judges writing only. It does not assess speaking, listening or reading.
- A result is not a certificate, qualification or official test score, and it must not be presented as one.
- Exam-score equivalents are approximate. They come from the conversion tables published by each exam provider, which are linked on the site.
- Do not rely on a result for decisions with serious consequences, such as university admission, employment, immigration or visa applications. Those require an official, recognised exam.
CEFR Test is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Council of Europe, IELTS, ETS, Duolingo, Cambridge University Press & Assessment or the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks. Their names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to describe how our estimates relate to their scales.
4. Your writing
You keep all rights to the text you submit. You give us permission to process it, and to pass it to our assessment provider, only so that we can produce your result. We don’t store it, as explained in the privacy policy.
You must have the right to submit any text you check. Please don’t submit other people’s personal information, or sensitive information about anyone, including yourself.
5. Acceptable use
When using the site, you must not:
- use bots, scripts or other automated means to submit texts, or call our API from anywhere other than the site itself;
- try to get around rate limits or other protections, or overload, disrupt or gain unauthorised access to the site or its systems;
- try to manipulate the assessment, for example by including instructions aimed at the model in your text;
- submit unlawful, abusive or harmful content, or content that infringes anyone’s rights;
- copy or resell the site, its results or its content as a service of your own.
We may block access from anyone who breaks these rules.
6. Our content
The site’s design, text, writing prompts, level descriptions and code belong to us, unless stated otherwise. You may share links to the site and quote small parts with attribution. Some material belongs to others and is used under their licences, which are credited where it appears — for example, the vocabulary profile word lists, which are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0.
7. Links to other sites
The site links to sources such as the Council of Europe and exam providers. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
8. No warranty
The site is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted or error-free, or that results will suit any particular purpose.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or your reliance on a result, including any indirect or consequential loss, or loss of opportunity, income or data.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, the updated terms apply.
